Yeah that's me!! And it's not just any Leah, this one is really me, and it's on NE Alberta St and 29th Ave in Portland (though it's probably faded or washed away by now). Mia Nolting is one of my favorite illustrators, and for $1, she'll write your name too.

These are some of my favorite drawings of hers:

letters, lveo, leather, and what I love

Diwa and I had the third official meeting of LVEO tonight (the little lveo link is to your left) where we compiled lists of themes that run through our work, that we're attracted to, that really get us thinking and excited. This is my list:

  • the figure, women, young girls, childhood

  • clothing, patterns, things that are decorative

  • pencil drawings

  • escapism, something that extends reality and makes it more grand and fantastical (and I don't mean unicorns)

  • text, mostly visually, but content too

  • fabric folds, leather, leather folds

  • hair, as a texture, as an amorphous form, wow I love hair and people that can draw hair well are fantastic

I did these drawings during class on Friday, full of hair, leather boots, more hair, and lettering. And way too much coffee; I was so shakey. Which spell check just told me is spelled "shaky", but it's too late for that.

Down the Rabbit-Hole

"Who are you?" said the Caterpillar.

This was not an encouraging opening for a conversation. Alice replied, rather shyly, "I hardly know, sir, just at present--at least I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I think I must have been changed several times since then."
