Two Serious Ladies
Last year I worked on the cover illustration & lettering for the reissue of Jane Bowles' 1943 novel, Two Serious Ladies. Jane Bowles was a New York City writer, and this is her only novel. I liked reading John Waters' take on this book here, and I feel lucky to be a part of something that was important to other New Yorkers decades before I was born and arrived in this city.
Many many thanks to AD Allison Saltzman at HarperCollins Ecco :D

white girls
a couple girls I built from white stoneware last time around in ceramics. I'm eventually working toward building a "dollhouse" or at least a whole room, furnished with chairs and rugs and girls and cats hanging out. Off to class now, I just started the fall session at Choplet last week.

cool girls
we went to see drowners this weekend at mercury lounge and also saw a cool girl band called bad girlfriend who made me want to draw some cool band girls. I'm never going to be in a band but if I was I'd probably write a song called feelings too.

Rag Dolls
I always, always want to make dolls, and since I hadn't done so in a few years I spent the past couple months making these. They have really long skinny arms and legs and the usual sad girl pout, so I've been calling them bored model dolls, sulking around my studio in a pack. All 5 are for sale in my shop here.

Girls putting on makeup
A couple details from an involved pattern I've been working on for a few days. I'm planning on doing more repeats of "girls doing stuff" since I really like how this and the Badminton one turned out.

blueberries / summer dreams
A few blueberry-related drawings I did over the summer. The top one is me as an Indian girl picking blueberries in Bar Harbor, Maine. That dream didn't happen this summer, and I baked a lot of blueberry bran/flax muffins with all our CSA blueberries instead. I can't guarantee that this recipe will work for you because I mostly made it up, but it made the best muffins ever every time I used it.

Secret Garden
Today I worked on this piece for a show my friends Tuesday and Pete are curating at Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis on the theme Garden of Earthly Delights. I decided that since it's for a gallery show I really wanted to try and do something that was all made by hand, and wasn't just a print of something I finished by scanning and editing in Photoshop. It was actually kind of hard, since all of my finals now, before they are printed, are just digital files. I think I like it though! The unscanned version is really nice because the figures and plants aren't glued down all the way so they pop out like a diorama.

internet girls
I don't think I ever got around to posting photos from Internet Girls at Habitat House last summer. Here is one!

match match
First image by me, second image by Chelsey Pettyjohn
Chelsey and I have had 6 hours of school together every week since the end of August, and at a certain point early-morning mandatory work time grows sluggish. We began sharing reference images, and it was fun to see the similarities and differences of drawing from the same source. Many of our images are of contemporary real-life people, and we had the genius idea to collaborate on an illustrated street style blog. The blog has yet to be realized, but one day it will happen.
Also, I haven't updated this blog in over 2 months because a lot has happened. Dylan moved in with me, I made a bunch of scarves, I did a textile & jewelry project with Kaye Blegvad, and now I'm working on a billion Etsy holiday orders. If you're following me on Instagram you can see bits & pieces of all this stuff since I may not update for another two months!

Hey guys, I just printed a zine of my work from this summer! It's full of lots of colorful patterns and girls, and is only $5! You can buy it in my Etsy shop.
The zine has some images from Internet Girls which opens tomorrow night at Habitat. That's me, still in my yoga clothes framing the dozens of little pieces. Hope to see you tomorrow!

Internet Girls
Internet Girls are the result of the cycling of images and tastes through the internet among girls. Internet Girls explores the current state of the Internet Girl. Right now, Internet Girls like vintage things, florals, patterns and textiles, pretty pastries/food, cats, the color pink, lace, and natural earth things (geodes, crystals, plants, succulents, feathers, bones, etc). If my show is any good, it will probably look like your dream bedroom.
Internet Girls will be at 1008 21st St. San Diego, CA 92102 at like 7 pm.
You can follow all my Internet Girl-spiration on internetgirls.tumblr.com.
