Park Day

I kicked off the day with an early-morning walk (more like a dawdle) in our neighborhood park with Moses. It was his first time really exploring the outside world on a leash, and I think he really liked it. Then I headed, sans Moses, to Park Slope for a picnic lunch and an afternoon of sketchbooking in Prospect Park with Tuesday. All the greenery and damp air put me in the mood to draw some fruits and vegetables.

These are some very, very lightly edited scans. The muggy weather meant my paint never quite dried, resulting in lots of smudges everywhere. I might edit some of these further into finished repeating patterns, or repaint more polished versions.

Secret Garden

Today I worked on this piece for a show my friends Tuesday and Pete are curating at Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis on the theme Garden of Earthly Delights. I decided that since it's for a gallery show I really wanted to try and do something that was all made by hand, and wasn't just a print of something I finished by scanning and editing in Photoshop. It was actually kind of hard, since all of my finals now, before they are printed, are just digital files. I think I like it though! The unscanned version is really nice because the figures and plants aren't glued down all the way so they pop out like a diorama.

LOL

Here I am in a Japanese magazine called SOUP! I'm wearing something I would never wear in real life and standing in front of the messiest part of my house, that for some reason I was told to stand in front of. But! It's pretty cool.
