sometimes shop pix ☺

Sometimes Shop has come and gone, and here are a handful of photos Kaye took from before we sold almost everything. I don't think the photos even do it justice (sorry Kaye), it was really a beautiful little store filled with everything we love. Thank you, thank you to everyone who came out to our opening party or over the weekend, it was amazing to meet you and show our work in person.

We're already planning our next pop-up for the holidays in December, and until then you can find my ceramics in my new shop, shop.leahgoren.com. I'll be listing unsold pieces from the pop-up and brand new pieces in early July. And now, I'm off to Mexico & California! xx

I went to see the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum a couple weeks ago and drew these favorites from photos I took. I get so bored looking at fashion online, but it's exciting to see it in a museum and in a historical context. This show was so well done, and the shapes of his work are so inventive I imagined everything I looked at like it was already a drawing.

tupper lake

We drove 5 hours north last weekend to the Adirondacks for a wedding in Tupper Lake. Lake swimming, wakeboarding, skipping rocks. I hung out on a speedboat with a big yellow dog, it was perfect.

Knot & Bow Sketchbook Workshop

I'm hosting a sketchbook workshop with Knot & Bow this Monday, Aug. 26 at their new Brooklyn HQ. There are still spots left, so if you're in NYC, buy tickets here - it will be fun! Each guest gets a ton of supplies for keeps, including my favorite binderboard sketchbook that I talked about back here. Hope to see you there!

In My Room

"In My Room" is a one night group show put on by some of my best friends from school, Rachel, Monica, and John. Since we graduated, they've been organizing group shows every chance they can, and this is the first one I've had the opportunity to be in & am around to attend. It will be a fun night with a lot of my favorite people, so stop by if you can make it to Park Slope! On top is the thing I made, I don't really know if I like it but art (without Photoshop) is hard.

favorite sketchbook

The night before I was planning on going to New York Central and trying to buy one of these elusive sketchbooks, I had all sorts of wonderful dreams about paper and drawing and George Bates' sketchbook class and the open model drawing session at Parsons etc etc. It was really nerdy.

And then I had the best trip there, because not only did they have the sketchbook, I had this fantastic conversation with one of the notoriously pretentious employees about it. We were like "isn't this sketchbook the best, it's such a good size, it always sells out so fast, and the cover is so nice, and it even lays flat when you open it in case you want to use the full spread, and that coventry vellum is super nice too, such a good pick." It was really nerdy.

After a week of emails and recoloring patterns and writing licensing contracts, I was so happy to paint a bunch of leaves and flowers for a few hours last night.
I started drawing in sketchbooks religiously toward the end of high school when I was 16 or 17 and knew I wanted to go to art school. My drawings may not have been that good, but I can look at a page and remember exactly where I was and what I was doing. At Pannikin with Ryan and his brother on New Year's Eve. I was drinking tea, his brother was reading a newspaper. It was lightly raining. It's a more accurate account of my life than anything I could write.

My two more recent ones are less vivid, maybe because I don't have as many feelings as I did when I was 17 or 20, or maybe because almost all of the drawings were done while giggling with Chelsey in Jordin's class. It's really nice to flip through though and see what I was thinking about then (mostly girls and flowers, of course).

New Products + Kate Edwards

Here's the first wave of some new photos and new products, all thanks to the amazing Kate Edwards. You might recognize her work, and our gorgeous friend & model Gabby, from Young Frankk jewelry -- Kate shot the latest lookbook, and Gabby's modeled for it all. I only have these handful of things up now because I'm about to close my shop while I'm in California for 3 weeks, but much more will be up in early January, including lots of new dresses.

Fashion's Night Out at Dalaga NYC

When Liz asked me if I'd like to host the Fashion's Night Out party & craft night at Dalaga in Greenpoint I immediately said yes, but I really don't know what I'm getting myself into! I've never hosted an event, never done anything fashion week related, never seen my clothes in a store in front of a ton of people...ha. So come by and say hi that night if you're in the area! And if you can't make it, or just want to see my clothes IRL, the pop-up shop will be there through September 16.

I finished up these posters last night for both the Greenpoint and Soho stores. It was a lot of fun drawing a bunch of different designers, and interesting to re-draw some of my own patterns.

Etsy Featured Shop

I'm really honored to have my shop featured on the Etsy blog this week. Etsy has become such an integral part of my life over the past couple years, and has had such a profound effect on my work. I talked about it in the interview here. Here are some photos from the post, and a couple that weren't included.
